February Assembly - Life On Mars?

Life on Mars?
Focus on your life with an uplifting assembly next Sunday. Our guest Dr Lynn Rothschild, an evolutionary biologist/astrobiologist from NASA Aames, will be talking about life just in time for Darwin Day. Did you even know there were astrobiologists? What kind of life is out there waiting for you?

To do your heart good, we'll have pop songs, readings, and socializing. Come and help us inspire each other–to live better, help often, and wonder more.

Sunday, January 14, 11am (Drop in early for coffee and donuts.)

Thank you for coming to remember with us!

Thanks for coming out to remember with us on Sunday. It was a beautiful and poignant assembly. As Sanderson rightly said, our ancestors live on through us in our genetic makeup. It is within each of us to help often and improve the lives of others.

Some people asked for Marcela Davison Aviles' slides from her talk on Day of the Dead, please find them at https://drive.google.com/file/d/1z0HZAkAJfYhif3_BtGWcPeBRlZ5TeHw9/view.

Sunday Assembly - Remember

Join us November 12th when our theme will be "Remember". Ten days after Día de los Muertos in Mexico, and the day after Remembrance Day in the UK, we'll be talking about remembering.

Marcela Davison Avilés, cultural consultant for the new Pixar film "Coco", will be speaking about the Mexican tradition of the Day of the Dead.

Sunday Assembly co-founder Sanderson Jones will be visiting from London and guest-hosting.

AWE - September 10

Anger, Fear, Disgust, Sadness, Joy - these emotions fill our daily lives, and it's quite easy to imagine why each contributes significantly to our survival. What about the uniquely ephemeral emotion of "awe"? When and why do we experience it, why might evolution have selected for it, and how might we evoke it to tell better stories, or to be better listeners? Michael Frederickson, Pixar technical director, is our guest speaker.

Can you imagine what it's like to see the world flat? How much of what we see do we take for granted? How would you drive, park, walk down stairs, play tennis, or dance with a partner?

Did you know that 5% of the population have asymmetric eyes and cannot see in 3D? Susanna Zaraysky will speak about her life seeing in 2D and the vision therapy she did to rewire her brain to see in more depth.
